My sister is a nurse and her husband an ER doctor, here is how they explained it to me how it should work.  A patient can be put in any hospital once they say they have symptoms, preferably in a negative pressure room.  If the test is confirmed Ebola they should the be transferred to one of the 4 special hospitals because only those have the decontamination units for dealing with waste.  All other hospitals do NOT have independent ability to properly store and dispose of waste (soiled linens and gowns, diapers, catheter tubes and bags, etc). This was a big problem in Texas and Spain. In TX, apparently they just piled the items in the corner, one on top of the other until it reached the ceiling, there was no where for it to go.  In Spain, the woman was a nurse tech I believe, so basically a custodian of human waste.  It was her job to dispose of the diaper.

Hopefully the CDC is waking up and realizing all positive Ebola patients need to go to one of the 4 hospitals.  But in total I think there are only 17 beds/units so if there are more than that at one time things could get complicated. So the Fairfax and Reston hospitals may be ready to see if someone is sick but in all likelihood if they test positive they will probably be transferred.[/quote]
