My DD, current U13 player, Q4 birthday, coming from a different club, has received an offer for their Aspire U13 next year. Any insights to share?
I’d try a few other GA tryouts before I took an Aspire offer.
Understood. Of course there is the 48 hour deadline to accept. We're coming from a smaller club that maxed out in NCSL.
Just tell them you need a bit more time to decide. Clubs don’t pull offers.
You are going to run into an issue with the snow storm. Tryouts will be delayed a few weeks.
This is my worry. Won't be able to check out other clubs with the snow. DD was invited out for an ID session a couple weeks ago at McLean, but we haven't received any feedback yet.
If the coach didn’t ask to talk to you after then not promising. That 2014 team is pretty much set. While I’m sure the SYC Aspire team will be competitive, I am not sure you are buying much by asking for more time. It stinks, but you kind of set yourself up for this situation. Personally, I would just mentally prepare for other teams. FVU might be the best option to make a first team if that is the goal otherwise RL tryouts are in March and there should be some competitive teams looking for backfilling players that go to ECNL or elsewhere.
SYC's Aspire teams are pretty competitive so if going there from a small club that only offers NCSL, it's not bad. Likely that the u13 aspire is higher level than the current club. If you think your kid is a baller than take them to be seen at other clubs. It's difficult to make some of these club's top teams that have established teams and players. There may be room for 1-2 outside players.
This was probably the type of feedback requested. Both the U13 Aspire and U14 Pre-GA II teams look to be competitive. Especially compared to smaller clubs. If your DD is repeating U13, she should have a good start. Get your foot in the door and let her show that's she capable of more. They liked something if they offered a spot after the 1st session
SYC has a few Q4 coming down for u13 to play again. Will be tough to make that team. But they could increase the roster.
The U13 GA or Aspire team? Or both?
Both.
So are U13 rosters pretty much set then if they have some Q4 girls coming down to bolster teams?
For NVA, Yes. They already had 17 kids this year. There are a few who will probably move down, so a few spots for 2013 Q4s, but other than that it is set. Last year for example, the teams were made before tryouts. Everyone else who showed up just didnt know it.
Anyone have knowledge on the roster shake ups at SYC and McLean for next year?
My understanding is McLean is pretty much locked in. I think most of the girls were offered in advance of tryouts given the 2013 FVU fiasco last year. SYC doesn’t usually let kids play up so I anticipate that one player will stay up and if there are others, they will do u13. Tryouts already started and offers went out, so I anticipate a lot of that team is already locked up too.
