Don’t buy it. Joe dumped her so she after the fact is implying all these songs were about the person she dumped. She has never maintained interest in one man long enough for Matty to have inspired so much over such a long time period.
Joe didn't dump her. She left him because he was a depressed man, and apparently very boring. She missed the fire and butterflies she felt with Matty Healy (“my wild boy and this wild joy”), so she ran to him straight out the slammer. Matty did dump her however because he couldn’t deal with her crazy fans and all the PR bs that comes with her. Yes, she was seeing him behind the scenes all those years. On and off. And writing about him, a lot.
Joe quiet quit. Couldn’t have been that boring and inconsequential since she wrote with him and wrote, at a minimum, invisible string and getaway car about him. She basically dumped Matty by doing all the PR BS rather than backing him.
Taylor's brand will always come first. Whoever she's with will have to accept that. Travis accepts it (embraces it, even). Matty didn't or couldn't (and to be clear, I'm not saying he should).
Agree with this. That’s why I personally think Travis is a great match for her.
I guess in that way. But she's got to talk to him (about what?!) every day for the rest of her life. UGH
THIS is what I can not imagine. How she goes from deep conversations with another artist over writing lyrics, favorite musicians, music theory, guitar riffs and piano chords to….football? See the lyrics to Maroon and The Tortured Poets Department both widely accepted to be about Matty. Long nights, deep conversations, lots of red wine and chocolate. Travis has a lot of charisma but let’s face it, he is skin deep, a total dork and not very bright. They have zero in common. Not her intellectual equal. She’s going to lose her mind in boredom if she marries him.
She seems to crave the fire and the passion and the drama of sneaking around with the “forbidden fruit” which makes for great music but not so much for a healthy LTR.
+1. She definitely craves passionate love and butterflies and drinking wine all night while pontificating and writing. Half her songs are about that. I don’t think she wrote this for Matty, but it’s pretty telling about how she views love: He respects my space And never makes me wait And he calls exactly when he says he will He's close to my mother Talks business with my father He's charming and endearing And I'm comfortable He can't see the smile I'm faking And my heart's not breaking 'cause I'm not feeling anything at all And you were wild and crazy Just so frustrating, intoxicating, complicated Got away by some mistake and now I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain It's 2 a.m. and I'm cursing your name I'm so in love that I acted insane And that's the way I loved you Breaking down and coming undone It's a roller coaster kind of rush And I never knew I could feel that much And that's the way I loved you. 👀
she wrote that in 2008 at age 19. You don’t think her views on love and experiences have evolved in her 20s and 30s ?
