Yeah, don’t get it. I have friends who love her but a couple podcasts and part of an audio book and… no.
I liked her writing when she first started gaining some popularity online. Her insincerity and self-centered personality quickly became obvious though, and by 2020, she was insufferable.
I seriously don’t get this. She’s a *podcaster*, even pretty funny at times. Why are people so obsessed with her innermost soul - with all these purity tests - like anyone cares about whether Josh Rogan or Pod Saves America is sincere vs self centered. The way women police other women is just . . . totally exhausting!
The alleged baring of her "innermost soul" is her whole brand, so when it hits as fake af and plastic, people are, rightly, pointing that out. The others are assumed to be self-centered (I mean, realistically, anyone with a podcast who thinks people want to hear what they think is pretty arrogant and self-centering, no?). Glennon made a whole brand about just being her raw, authentic self, but the cracks show far more now and she's still trying to sell it as this high-integrity, honest show. It's not "purity testing" to point that out. She's the one who decided she was going to center her brand on divulging her personal life and claiming to be offering raw realness. The way some women duck behind this "women shouldn't call out other women" nonsense is ridiculous. Liars are liars, grift is grift, Glennon's always been big on both and it's not "anti-woman" to point that out.
There are a lot of female podcasters who I adore and want to know everything they think, but they were all talented and accomplished individuals first—comedians, performers, writers. Glennon just fell into this superstardom thing so randomly, by that stupid Don’t Carpe Diem blog post that went viral. It’s not even very good—it was a just a right place/right time thing. She’s just yet another hack trying to ride this internet fame thing as long as possible. I guess I have to give her credit for how long she’s made it last, but most of that is due to marrying a famous athlete. If she hadn’t done that—oh, and discovered her gay side, of course—nobody would be talking about her at all.
