I'm not a DJT fan but Melania dresses better than Jill B, Michelle O and Laura B.
It's a different kind of dressing. The other three are dressing for their role - and also trying to look accessible while doing it. And it felt authentic when they dressed that way - never seemed like they were costuming up. Melanie's clothes are beautiful but also look like armor. That feels authentic, too. She's sort of the opposite of warm and cozy.
Jill B and Laura B were/are okay dressers because they never aimed for impact. They dressed to be inoffensive and they succeeded. Michelle, I think, was a uniquely bad dresser because she consistently dressed wrong for her face and body with these little dirndl outfits that she probably thought made her relatable. She looked really good when she owned her build and structure, which unfortunately was seldom.
Agree to disagree I think - I liked Michelle's clothes. I'm enjoying her breezy artsy rich lady outfits now, too - but I did like her WH clothes, and I think they looked nice and were appropriate, and did make her look like an approachable professional. Melanie's clothes make her look like you are going to get shot by a bodyguard if you say hello to her.
Then i think each woman is successfully telegraphing her personality through her clothes. Based on conversations with moms and Sidwell and St. A from their time there, Michelle was very friendly and approachable, and Melania talked to no one. Personally, I thought Michelle had some big hits and some big misses. She was definitely more experimental in her fashion choices than Jill or Laura and really tried to support up and coming designers, which sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. I think both Jill and Laura always looked good in the way that you want your mom or grandma to look at a nice wedding or big family or professional event -- if your mom or grandma showed up wearing those outfits, you'd tell them they looked great, and you'd mean it. It's not a cover of vogue look. I thought Melania generally looked good when she stayed away from the cosplay, but she had some very persistent odd choices, like the cropped pant suits with stilletos, and the gloves indoors. Some of her other favorites I liked on her -- the double-breasted blazers, wide belts on dresses, and the constant array of long wool coats.
