The SJC community has been very kind not to share details on DCUM about the way DCSAA was mishandled last year, along with a host of other leadership missteps that occurred last season. Parents are well aware of what happened but have stayed silent out of respect for the coach as a person. Before that changes, the coach might be better served by looking inward, listening to the feedback she is being given, and doing things differently this year.  [/quote]

To be fair, things are different at SJC this year. DCSAA participation is now part of SJC’s regular season; the decision is no longer up to the coach. Parents last year questioned why the team didn’t play in big tournaments that attract some of the best teams in the country (Spooky Nook, Spring Fling, Florida spring break); this year they are.

But larger questions remain. Can the coach inspire this team? Can she lead them? Can she tough-love them? Is she capable of pushing them beyond their comfort zone? Will winning be the focus - or will player feelings be the priority? SJC had stronger / more experienced talent last year, but until she confronts some of these issues, and takes a different approach than last year, regardless of what talent she has, expect more of the same.
