I’m reallly confused about how her background. She was apparently a housekeeper and had some small jobs and then became an executive at a real estate firm? How does she own so many properties? Their house in Chevy Chase is pretty big
Well, you can see here that she was not very good at her executive job in DC. Also dishonest. https://nypost.com/2023/01/20/missing-mom-ana-walshe-downplayed-dc-legionnaires-outbreak/ https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/01/DC-Health_Crossing-SE-DC_16_2022.pdf
Wasn't she a glorified property manager?
Pretty much, yes. I’m really curious about how they were funding their lifestyle - flipping properties, maintaining multiple homes, luxury cars, etc. Her income alone can’t be floating their entire endeavor.
Grifting.
Case in point: Tishman-Speyer is advertising a job for General Manager of Rockefeller Center at a salary of $180-220K plus bonus eligibility. The job is posted on Glassdoor. She was a regional manager for TS covering the DC region, no way is she making more than the GM of Rockefeller Center, which is TS’s marquee property. So let’s say she’s pulling in $200K, which I think is probably a stretch. Directors on Glassdoor are at $180K base, which is lower than a Manager. My spouse and I make a combined $450K and there’s no way we could afford to replicate their lifestyle. I’m guessing their is big debt on their household balance sheet.
Maybe her family back in Serbia is super-rich, and gave her all the money?
Mo, that is not the case. If you watch information and interviews with her mother, you can see her apartment in Serbia. It is very, very, very humble (as in, if one had money and was miserly one STILL would not CHOOSE to reside there).
First off--such a horrible story and I am praying her three sons stay together , I don't know if her sister can adopt them-I hope she can. I would if I was younger and had the energy to care of small kids. The area her mom has a condo in is actually pretty expensive for Serbian and EE standards, probably around 200/300 euros in that state and if renovated 300/400. Yes, the condo hasnt been upgraded since the 1960s. It is not uncommon to see someone like Ana--being dressed up in designer clothing living with parents (in a dilapidated condo) who are in sweatpants from the 70s...I know from a US perspective this makes no sense but it is common in Belgrade. Being middle class is really not about what your condo looks like , nor how your parents dress, even during the war when no one had any money---most families kept their middle class values--school is important, piano lessons, sports--the same things we do here in the DMV. Unfortunately what is true for many people in the US but maybe more prevalent for East Europeans and Serbians (especially the ones who are attracted to moving to the West),---this fictionalized idea that somehow money grows on trees in the west and if you just had that car, that outfit; that house your life would be so much more magnificent...what we don't have often romanticize and idealize--- However, with all this being said it doesnt really matter because Ana is a victim, and no one deserves what happened to her, and whoever did this should be punished to the full extent! So can we please not judge her!!! Let her rest in peace and pray for her children, mom and sister.
