I dislike handing out $2s to random restaurant order takers. At the counter. I feel like suddenly we live in a developing country where you do that on vacation. Restaurants, just pay your employees better!! I will pay for it in my order. Stop harassing me for more $2s.
For a long time I didn’t offer take out tips, like for a sit-down restaurant with tips. I had friends in Hs who handled those orders. They said they got paid at least minimum wage (whereas the other rest. staff was making waiter wages). My friends said they didn’t expect a tip, and were making BANK because they were getting paid at least decently too. Now, I think restaurants pay takeout preparers the same as the waitstaff. Makes sense, if they can take advantage of that low low wage, and pull from the same pool of staff. With that in mind, I definitely want to tip! Not as much as sitting down—after all I am not getting that sit down service. Don’t want it on takeout nights. I’ve heard recently from workers that 10% is nice. They can complete more of those orders per hour, compared to waiting.
