Did we see lastest, Duran now offering Vitual Virginia for those that cant do in person due to staffing. That only goes from 3rd grade up. So 1st and 2nd are left behind, but there is Lexa and Dreambox. No Thanks. I appreciate how he complimented the teachers for their hard work as this is really not their fault, but central office and school board shame on you!
What do you expect them to do??!! If teachers don't want to teach, they can't just conjure up hundreds of teachers. Offering Virtual Virginia is in direct response to people's complaints that summer school was "ripped from under them" and leaving them helpless and without child care for the summer; that APS needs to provide them something. So they're offering them VV. What freakin' else can you expect from them? And don't say offer the teachers more money because the fact is: A LOT OF TEACHERS DON'T CARE ABOUT THE FINANCIAL INCENTIVE AND JUST WANT A BREAK FROM A HORRIBLE YEAR BEFORE STARTING A WHOLE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!
Wow, let it go. PP was just saying it was not on the teachers! You react as if you are defensive. If teachers don't stop being on the defense, there will be many fragments to be repaired other than Summer school. I'm asking
First of all, I'm not a teacher. I'm a parent sick of everyone being so critical and over-reacting to every single thing APS does or does not do or how they do or how they don't do it. Second of all, I don't think you're following the commentary accurately. PPP was criticizing the offering of VV for 3rd grade up and leaving the younger kids behind with just Lexa and Dreambox. ("No thanks.") I'm asking what PPP - and so many others who are criticizing APS for "pulling the carpet out from under them" regarding summer school what it is they expect APS to do if they don't have the teachers available to provide summer school for everyone. it is not Duran's fault, either.
I think someone answered this when they said what Loudon anf Fall Church City proactively did. If you accept mediocrity then that is what APS will be. It is Duran's fault.
I’m not sure where you got the idea Loudoun has some robust fully staffed summer school option already set up. We get staff emails daily for summer school positions. As a teacher, nobody yet has any answers for us about what summer school will even look like because they do not know. Not the deans of summer school, not our admin, nobody. It seems there MAY be some in person options? Hopefully? But they can’t tell us. Other credit recovery done online? Maybe? But only 2 classes max? Also can’t tell us for sure. I have kids who haven’t shown up or done anything all year (only a couple) and I need to call their parents to be like so yeah, surprise surprise, they won’t pass the year, but I also have zero info to give them about what any summer school option might actually look like. It is not at all set up yet, they don’t even know the dates it might be or how many hours a day.
Nobody said Loudon had a robust summer school program, the reference was how Loudon was handling recruitment early on for staffing for summer school. The comment was soley on effort reflection, and not outcome.
Ok, but it doesn't sound like Loudoun actually has it figured out so why should APS be following them?
