UNC women’s soccer has 16 players 5’5” or shorter. 7 are 5’5” 5 are 5’4” 3 are 5’3” 1 is 5’2” 16 kids are over 5’5”. 2 are 5’6” 4 are 5’7” 1 is 5’8” 3 are 5’9” 5 are 5’10” 1 is 5’11” So the reality is, taller players are certainly over represented based on their normal population distribution but in general, even UNC falls victim to the realities of actual population size distribution. And every player around 5’10” are almost exclusively forwards or defenders. So it is still more accurate to frame the discussion of attributes within positional context. So, if your DD has aspirations of playing forward or defender in the ACC she would greatly improve her chances by being 5’9” or 5’10”. If your DD wants to play in the ACC she should still simply focus on being good at soccer first and foremost
Very interesting information. Which group has more starters?
Umm, the taller kids are generally locked into 2 position groups and the average kids are locked into the midfield position group so all of them in a relative sense to their position and depth?
No...it means the UNC coach like tall forwards. It doesn't mean all ACC schools have tall forwards....they may....but does not necessarily mean.
You are free to go through the ACC rosters but I’m pretty certain most forwards and defenders are in the 5’9” range. There will certainly be some 5’6” in there but most will be closer to 5’9”. As the ability to find both talented and taller kids get harder to find Mid major programs as well as D2 and D3 will gradually get smaller and smaller at those positions. Since 5’4” is pretty typical those players are easy to find. 5’9”? Not so much, especially considering competing sports like basketball, volleyball, track etc.
Yeah. UNC gets the pick of the litter. You are fooling yourself if you think there is a large segment of kids running around with all the tangibles to compete for a starting UNC spots. The man doesn't even really recruit. He just snatches them from the YNT rosters. A tall, fast, skilled, high iq forward is hard to find....and UNC and Stanford get them first
