Usually bullying peaks in middle school and high school kids are more mature. My bet is that the assailants in this case had been misbehaving for years. They need to be dispersed to different schools with clear notice that the next infraction will result in expulsion.
My DC who goes to Oakton says that only the boy who actually applied the stun gun to the victim’s chest has been gone from school. The boys who surrounded and held the victim have never been gone from school, DC says. Some of them got a one day in-school suspension. Has anyone else heard the same?
If that is true, both Scott Brabrand and Jamie Lane should be fired immediately.
FCPS is obviously compromised and will not do the right thing. The right punishment is to expel the main kids that were involved. This was an assault with a weapon. A felony if I am correct. However, they are SCARED TO DEATH of the students or the potential of being sued. They are absolute wimps. Their judgement will always be flawed. If my kid was assaulted, and FCPS did not take it seriously, I would get a lawyer so fast it would make your head spin. They are taking it seriously. This is a fact not an opinion.
+1 Oakton should have some nice homes with some nice pools to recover on settlement.
I can’t believe the attackers names haven’t been circulated by other students. Hundreds of kids know exactly who did this. It is beyond the pale. How many cases, nationwide, have their been in which law enforcement used a taser on a suspect, and they died or were seriously injured, and uproar ensues? This is no different, and possibly worse. This is a kid who is clearly under 100 pounds being mob attacked by men. If I was the victims dad, I would do everything I could to make sure this incident followed the attackers for the rest of their life. They could’ve killed him.
Does anyone know if the victim was randomly bullied/targeted? Or was he perhaps friends with some part of that crowd/troublemakers as well? In many instances mob bullies have some reason to attack someone, usually revenge or getting back at them for something else. The attack seemed coordinated which must have taken some effort and planning. For those with kids at the school I can see that the former case would definitely be concerning if they randomly chose someone they didn't really know. But if the latter I'd be less worried about my kid as long as he stays away from troublemakers.
This looks very much targeted and not at all random. What many of the PPs are saying is that it is fully possible that this kid had other torments from the same group, but was afraid to speak up, because FCPS is notoriously bad at helping the victim - and often does what it can to turn the tables and blame the victim, to save itself. This doesn't look like any run of the mill "I don't want to hang out with you anymore" revenge.
