I bet Nancy knew about the book when she held on to the impeachment. The timing is pretty suspect--especially with SOU next week. Just like with Kavanaugh. Save the "best" for last.
The timing of the book would have no bearing on the timing of the trial. Regardless of when, Bolton would have to make himself available to the Senate trial. He was never going to stonewall them, then turn around and say it in a book months after the trial. Doing that would be the ultimate f-u to America. Either you keep the secret or you don't.
He's made it abundantly clear he will testify if subpoenaed. You can't just show up and testify; you need to be subpoenaed. So now it's up to the Senate.
Yes but this whole sequence is forseeable, and it's not Nancy Pelosi's machinations that brought it about. We knew Bolton's opinion about the Ukraine situation from Fiona Hill's deposition in October. A few weeks later the story broke about Bolton's book. November 9, specifically. If you are Bolton and writing a tell-all book about this mess, are you going to refuse to testify and THEN publish it? No. So ask yourself: If you are Bolton, how do you make sure you are on the record before the Senate votes? 1. Write your memoir in record time. It was what, 3 months from his firing to landing a book deal and finishing a draft? There are probably cranberry stains on the thing. 2. Have your lawyer tell everyone you have new and relevant information on Ukraine. 3. Hold a presser with the entire washington press corps to declare you will honor a subpoena, eliminating the delay of getting the courts to declare that you *must* do so. By doing so he gives up legal protection if Trump comes after him. 4. You decide that now is the right time to circulate a draft of your book, ensuring that it is in the hands of enough people that something will come out. This took a lot of dedication on Bolton's part to achieve. He is pulling the strings here. He has dumped it in the lap of the Senate on purpose, at the exact right time.
