I think the wife he left found a convenient excuse in Omar for her divorce.  She is an old hag who tricked him into marrying her and now she has been dumped for a new woman.

To be fair he was pretty young when he fathered the kid and rightly did not marry her immediately.  It was a last chance kid for her and an "oh my god, I am too young for this" kid for him.
