Looks like WTOP is reporting that MoCo will allow ICE in their jails after all. It only took how many rapes? Hmmm maybe this sanctuary county thing isnt such a good idea. Who would've thought
I'm not sure why a rich county like MoCo defined "sanctuary" as protecting criminals. Welcoming to immigrants? Sure. But shielding people with DUIs, DV, and rape from deportation is completely outrageous.
It’s not a sanctuary jurisdiction, but don’t let facts get in the way of a good racist story.
They may not call themselves a "sanctuary county," but their policies belie their denial of it.
Montgomery County has officially joined a list of jurisdictions across the country that refuse to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Its latest efforts are like that of so-called sanctuary cities, publicly working to protect undocumented immigrants. County Executive Marc Elrich signed the Promoting Community Trust Executive Order Monday morning to honor the longtime promise to the area’s immigrant residents. The order prohibits county officials from asking people about their immigration status and making threats based on citizenship. Elrich said county employees are forbidden from coordinating with immigration officers with the purpose of detaining illegal immigrants. “Enforcing immigration law is the sole responsibility of the federal government of the United States,” said Elrich. “It is not in the interest of Montgomery County to utilize its limited resources to facilitate the enforcement of civil immigration law.” Elrich said the new order also aims to improve community security by ensuring that immigrants and other vulnerable communities can engage with county departments without fear of being sent back to their country of origin.
https://wamu.org/story/19/07/22/montgomery-county-vows-not-to-cooperate-with-ice/
