Funny how 2017 - 2019 is a big mystery to FCV parents. Here is a recap. Loudoun was always strong U9-U12 but lacked a top platform for U13-U19. Until two years ago the only option was ECNL. So top Loudoun players would leave for ECNL teams. Primarily FCV given the close location. So every spring the FCV tryouts would be packed with Loudoun players looking for a chance to join the club. This happened last year as well since FCV held 6 DA ID sessions before March 1 last year. Loudoun did not even announce they made ECNL until March so by then the girls had moved on. DA had great promise a year ago and ECNL was an unknown. This year FCV held ID Sessions but few outsiders showed up. By few we are talking a handful of players. ECNL clearly has a major impact on keeping the talent going forward. So each year Loudoun ECNL will get stronger starting with the 2007s. Given that Loudoun is better than FCV at the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 age groups it is pretty clear that Loudoun is only going to get better while FCV tries their best to recruit anyone they can get to show up.
But surely the size and quality of the club would be enough to have more than one winning team out of 12 teams, no? Even CCL teams went to crap. Now, I know they are formerly Loudoun Black teams but one would have hoped that Loudoun could do better developing than having one team with a winning record in CCL? So lets do a deeper dive on the girls side. CCL II. Loudoun has 6 teams form U13-U19. 3 teams with a winning record. NCSL Loudoun has 6 teams same ages. One team in D2 has a winning record. Loudoun has two teams in NCSL D1, 2 in D2, 1 team in D3 and 1 team in D4. So Loudoun has a total of 24 teams across 4 leagues and 5 teams have winning records.
The answer is no. Not against other ECNL clubs that have had ECNL for years and were able to keep their pipelines intact. The Loudoun ECNL record makes sense. If you want to watch the best Loudoun players of years past look to FCV. The best FCV DA U-15 player, the 2005 play up with a team leading 13 goals in 19 games? She was wearing Loudoun Red jersey just two years ago. I totally understand what you are trying to do with disparaging Loudoun. It's a good try. But Loudoun ECNL has completely cut off the FCV pipeline. Sorry.
Now that Loudoun has ECNL has that 05 come back to Loudoun? What is stopping her? Certainly there are no rules against it.
Probably not smart to do in peak recruiting years. But if she did come back, FCV would still list her as one of their top commits in a few years like they did the McLean girl who is going to Princeton!
