ou shouldn't be surprised. Bullis has openly and unashamedly recruited in football and basketball for years against league rules. Others did it too but Bullis doesn't try to hide it. And in recent years they recruited openly through the efforts of Performance SS. They gave a scholarship for a well to do family for a kid to come from a private school in VA to play lacrosse and then that kid runs back to VA never to be heard from again by the Bullis community. The school has tons of money and incredible facilitities and provides tons of aid so of course it attracts talent. Perhaps the situation occuring this summer where Bellistri's job was saved by a correct alumni and school support group and the firing of Performance SS will knock them back a bit but not for the next couple of years.
It will be interesting to see what comes of Bullis lacrosse after this year, despite the one year superstar who bolted after being enrolled in the school for 10 months, Bullis still has a very strong senior class. I do think Bullis will take a major drop after this season. Their sports-obsessed headmaster is being forced out after the 2020 school year (Bullis boosters will deny this but the administration doesn't want to buy him out for his last year). Bellistri is still a very good coach so while I expect for them to still compete favorably in the IAC and against WCAC foes, I see their National aspiration taking a step back. I think the days of Bullis handing out free rides to the superstar athletes is gradually fading. Too many full pay families or those on not enough student have voiced their concerns enough to the current administration and BOT.
