This is pretty ignorant statement. All kids deserve good teachers. In any work situation incompetent workers are let go but it does not happen in Mcps.

We are zoned to a low performing MS in upcounty.  Very often there are many variables as to why the students are underperforming...usually low SES and low education of the household is blamed. But what happens when all variables are removed and only the teacher performance is evaluated by other means than MAPs?

Mcps needs to add other mechanism of teacher evaluation and it needs to include outside evaluators sitting in the classroom and observing the teachers in the classrooms.  Especially important when MAP scores are high but at least 1/2 the parents petition and document inefficiency.

Maybe this cannot happen unless they fix curriculum and textbooks first.

Whose life is more likely to be negatively impacted by an incompetent teacher? MC kid or poor kid. ESP. poor kid who might also have parents who don’t speak English. She went from Pyle to Gaithersburg. Pyle parents marshaled resources, including DCUM, to address what their kids needed. I know because I was on this thread from the start. Does the average parent at Gaithersburg have the time and connections to help their kid in this way?[/quote]
