Don't worry about the housing.  My DC took it down to the wire and ended up with a great dorm situation that suited DC very well.  Much to our relief, housing does a great job with housing matches.  I'm sorry you were disappointed as a Duke alum but UChicago economic is quantitative so his future is well served. Your S will have no end of internship opportunities too.   The city loves UChicago and Northwestern kids.  That'll give him the working experience to go anywhere.  Plus Chicago for city amusement is affordable for young people.[/quote]
