He did for years. Since he has made partner, his life is much better. He's usually [b]home by 6:30 and puts kids to bed (though admittedly logs on at night[/b] fairly often)[/quote]

That sounds miserable.  DH has a really busy week at work last week and was logging back on from home until 9 pm.  It's fine as an occasional thing, but it really sucks to barely see your spouse and for him to barely get time with the kids during the week.  Also, I like that DH has time to go to the gym and stay in shape.  The money trade off would totally not be worth it to me when you can still live comfortably on much less.

PP here - it's funny that people are posting that logging on at night is "miserable."  Do you live in DC?  [b]I think most career professionals (regardless of the salary) in the DC area work outside of 9-5,[/b] and when I was working (at a fraction of his salary), I would do the same.  Maybe I've been jaded by the work culture of the area, but I feel so fortunate that we have the income we have and my DH can be home to see the kids.  Also, FWIW, he loves his job and his work. Yes, but working outside of the 9-5 doesn't mean most people are routinely getting home at 6:30 pm and then frequently logging back on at night unless you have a long crappy commute and not much flexibility.[/quote]
