Talking on your phone in public is rude. At the gym, on the metro, at the grocery store, wherever. A quick "hi we're calling to confirm your appointment" is fine, but conversations? Not ok in public ever, even without speakerphone. Have your long conversations in private. [/quote]

umm...your weird. Nothing wrong with having a conversation.  Do you whisper to your friends when you're out in public together?  God forbid people hear your conversation then!  Oh wait, it's not over the phone so it's not rude in that case...riiight.   :roll: [/quote]

I'm with PP, anything other than a quick call is rude. People talk a lot louder when on a cell phone versus having a conversation with someone who is standing next to them. And, it goes without saying that a blaring speaker phone conversation (and they are all blaring) is multiple times louder than an in-person conversation, at a completely different decibel. It doesn't blend into the background like other chatter, but instead dominates the scene.[/quote]
