My 2.5 year old daughter is ahead of children in her class. I am by more means bragging, I am just stating a fact. She is ahead in her vocabulary (she speaks in complete sentences in English and Spanish). Also, a lot of the things the teacher is doing with the kids, she has already leaned. She said to me today that my daughter can count to 10. I didn't tell her, but she has been able to count to 10 since she was 17 months old. At this point if you show her a number, she can tell you what it is. I am worried that on one hand, she is not getting challenged and want to them to move her up to the 3 year olds class. However, another part of me thinks does a 2.5 year old really need to be challenged? WWYD?
Having been in basically this situation, I would not move her. She's happy, and she's learning all kinds of things that have nothing to do with letters and numbers. Academic challenges are not the only kind of challenges, and not the ones that matter most to small children.
