Just don't go if you don't feel like it.
No tell them you do not want to go. It is so much easier when everyone communicates. Just say...we are staying at home this weekend and looking forward to it. We work all week and just want to relax around the house. Who could not understand that? Also as a side note, it is really good to have a place the kids are familiar and comfortable with...in a few years, when they are easier to care for....they can spend a long weekend over there and you can go places and do adult things(like dress leather and stay in the bedroom all day!). Think long term here.
Bwahahahaha! My kids are 8 and 10, and neither set of grandparents is willing to do sleeopvers. We even moved across the country so that the kids could get to know their grandparents, but we were sorely disappointed. My mother, in particular, has stated explicitly that she does not want to babysit except in emergencies. I understand the OP. While grandparents have no obligation to babysit their grandchildren, I would hope that my parents would want to form a bond with their grandkids. This only happens when they spend a lot of time with them. When I hopefully am a grandparent one day, I will for sure babysit and offer over-nights. When I see my friends who have involved grandparents, I notice that they have a much tighter bond both with their grandkids and their kids than in my family. I don't have that kind of relationship with my parents, but I am determined to have a much more loving, affectionate, and involved relationship with my kids and, one day, their kids.
