Interesting. Prior to meeting my wife, my family was a "buy American" family. When we were dating in 1999, my wife bought a 1997 Nissan Sentra with only 12K miles on it. She bought it because after her divorce from her first husband, she didn't have a lot of extra money. This was the best car we found at Carmax in the compact class that she could afford (and she could only afford it because I gave her a gift of about $800 to cover the difference between what the car cost and what she could afford to pay). The car ended up being an excellent car for us. It lasted until 2009 with minimal maintenance and issues. Then again, we did not deal with a dealership or Nissan itself, but took it to an independant shop to maintain and they maintained it well. In 2009 when we finally replaced the car, we sold it to a woman who works at my agency. We told her where we took the car for maintenance and she kept taking it back there. They transferred the records from our name to her name so that they had the maintenance history. Whenever I took our new car there, they usually told me "your old car was in here a couple of months ago...still in good condition." or something like that. She kept it another 4 years before she sold the car. I don't know what happened after that, but at that point, it was a 16 year old car and had lasted 3 owners pretty well. I have no idea what demographic fits Nissan Sentra owners, but none of the descriptions yet match either of us.
