Arrogance. Combine "it will be better when they are older" (little kid, Little problems - big kid, big problems) with "we Will make more money in a couple more years" (maybe, with extreme luck or maybe a parent or grandparent dying) and "it's just a phase!" (It's not, you are a bad parent ). And voila! That family of five or six ruining your dinner before driving off in a dented minivan!
Thank you for making me choke on my fruit laughing. (And yes, I drive a minivan and may have a lot of kids...actually, I'd better go check given the current level of silence. But there's nothing I enjoy more than commiserating about the terrible behavior of other people's children, and the pathetic permissiveness of other parents.) It seems to me like a lot of people just think this is how it is and what people do. Or that's my assumption-- that the same people who think it's normal for their three year olds to scream at them and punch them in the face when angry because it's just a developmental stage and what can you do? might just be the same folks who think it's normal to procreate again and again because well that's just what being a grown-up means now and that's what you do, and besides, they (like me) probably think their kids are well-behaved compared to those awful little snots next door...
