We taught our kids when they were very young what half and quarter meant at home through cooking and counting their coins. Half is easier to learn. Quarter as a concept is harder to learn. [/quote] My kid is in 3rd in a private school, but one that follows the common core standards. He is doing time and fractions now, and man is it hard for him. Many tears and re-explanations as he does homework working with those pesky clock hands. And this is a smart kid and a good school. There are reasons topics are grouped as they are.[/quote]
