You don't need a burner phone. It's not like you are turning in Pablo Escobar! Police take calls from citizens all the time, the will keep your info confidential. Most that will happen is that they will turn it over to whatever the MoCo equivalent of a truancy officer.
For me its worth the $35 or so to make sure that the police can't tell who they heard it from. Turst me if things go bad the $35 is a pittance and you will wish that you did not give the police that option as they will not know who made the call so they can't divulge information that they don't have. I don't trust the police to do the right thing and I never trust someone that I do not have to. I stack the deck when I play the game and make sure that I cover my tracks when I do something that might blowback on me. A quick story about the paranoid ... When I started working at my law firm many moons ago we had an out of town retreat. My best friends at the time had too much to drink and the friendly ribbing with others at the bar turned physical. Many punches were thrown by lots of people followed by trips to the hospital for split lips and one person that was knocked out cold. It was ridiculous beyond words but many of my friends careers would have ended that night with arrests as the security tapes (yup I'm old enough that it was a VCR tape) from the bar would have been all of the evidence that the state would have needed to prosecute. Rather than trust the system I paid another friend cash to return the bar that night just at closing and ask for the manager. He paid the manager $1,000 for the tapes which after watching I destroyed. Covered all the tracks and advised these lawyers that they should not talk to the police if contacted. Police contacted them and accused them everything that they did and with evidence tampering but could prove NOTHING. If you fight fair your not fighting hard enough.
