Hell no, what is wrong with you?
Are you serious? What is wrong with you? No OP but how old were you when your mom let you walk to school or the bus stop without her? Do you realize kids in NYC take the subway to school without a parent starting in grade 3. They only issue parent cards for K-2nd students without older siblings. My mom took me to school the very first day for bus pics. After that, I was walking home with 1-2 other kids starting at age 4 (when you used to start K) and shockingly I knew how to do it. AND no crossing guards. The only reason YOUR kids can't do it is because you haven't taught them yet. But go ahead and keep coddling them while judging others. OP - they could both handle walking 1.5 blocks to school with a crossing guard. They can definitely handle it together.
+1 Some DCUM folks are the prime example of overprotective, coddling, helicopter parents who would not dream of teaching their ES kids some important life skills, like e.g. crossing the street safely,m until they graduate from HS.
