Should we tithe 10% of gross or net? Thanks.
Your goal should be to donate 10% of what you earn, dont think too hard about net or gross. However, It doesnt all have to be to the Church. If you donate to other charities you can include that too. I probably donate about 5% total not 10% I had a friend many years ago that was struggling with 2 kids and driving a school bus. She gave 10% to her Mormom Church every week. When I asked why she did it when she obviously needed the money herself she told me that its very easy for all of us to say that we need the money ourselves, and where do you draw the line. She also said that she knew that if she needed help, the Church would help her. So if she couldnt pay her rent ( didnt happen as far as I know) she could go to them and know they would help her out.
It was insurance, then. A quid pro quo - not an actual gift.
