This is OP. He is a fitness fanatic and a young retiree--as in retired from venture capital--still has a kid in school and a wife who works. By saying he was retired I meant that he didn't have to go to a job. He runs, works out at a boutique fitness place in Bethesda, and does yoga. Not buying the heart explanation. I think the pp who said it was the challenge with OCD has got it right.
And with all this specific info, someone is going to figure out who he is and tell him someone is judging him on the internets!!
Yes- and what a judgmental b____ he has as a neighbor!
+1 Admit you were wrong to judge/dismiss, OP, and move on. Anyone who has experience shoveling snow knows that this is the way to do it (regardless of heart disease, age, back problems, etc., although those would certainly be more reason to do it) if you are going to get close to 2 feet of snow. You asked, "why did he do this," but didn't have an open mind to any of the answers. Also, I don't know what it was like on your street, but he might have done it at 10 p.m. because there wasn't enough accumulation before then for it to make sense to get started. He may have been out doing it at 6:00 a.m. because it is a LOT easier to do it while the snow is still dry than a) when more has fallen, b) when it rains or melt a little and then re-freezes as ice. Whatever his reasons, just get over it.
