I have two pre-teens and we are thinking about cashing in on the house and moving in eastern MoCo. Just want to know about people's experience with the high schools in the area who have kids who are not in magnets. All everyone ever talks about on this site is magnet programs and the 'W' schools.
I am in East Silver Spring - population in federal workers and professors. "All" parents have graduate degrees, Peace Corps experience. What I mean by this they value education (or their families did and had the means to pay for it - I had to add that for inevidible snark of DCUM) I feel like though not an affluent population ESS is certainly upwardly mobile , but still a blend of families who are more at-risk. I am hoping that all these families stay put and not flee for western part of county and SS will outgrow its reputation. I also believe having parents involved makes a big difference in an a student's performance. My DC is doing "fine", not a superstar to his teachers , not getting tutored or attending STEM classes. I am okay with that.
