You might not need a new nanny as much as a clear understanding about the amount of notice and the way in which she must give notice for upcoming trips. I have a written nanny contract that specifies that she needs to try to coordinate her vacations with mine, and also that she needs to provide at least a month's notice in writing of any vacation. Anyway, I know you were just venting, and might not necessarily be looking for a huge life change like changing nannies.
OP here. This is actually already on her contract, pretty similar to what you have, so she bombed on providing required notice. Major change like new nanny is not where I want to go at the moment, though when she returns from vacation we will be having a sit down about job expectations. In the meantime, I've negotiated a plan for the week in January that will involve very early work hours for me so that I ca get in most of a work day before 11:30am, then head off to retrieve my children. I'm considering it good practice for an early morning workout routine that I really need to resume anyway!
