My wife hit me a few times. The first time I didn't do anything, except curse at her. We were in public with the kids to make matters worse.

I know I will be flamed for this but,
The last time I grabbed her, placed her on the floor, straddled her and put my hand around her neck and calmly told her I could seriously hurt her if I wanted to. She has not raised her hand to me since (several years ago).

I didn't plan to do this but in the heat of the moment after being hit I reacted.

Of course, if your wife is almost as strong as you this approach could end badly. And as others have said it is probably better not to be married to someone you feel you have to be able to overpower to feel safe. But if you're strong enough, putting a little fear into her, without really hurting her, might not be a bad idea until you are ready to walk away.[/quote]
