I'm the Beatles PP.  I don't think the point of a cover is to do it better than the original.  It's to do it well, and do it differently, and put your own spin on it.  It's not like Beatles songs are sacred -- they have a big catalog of great songs, and it's natural that other people are going to have different takes on them.  (Do you also think no one should cover Bob Dylan songs?  We'd be missing a bunch, then, including that lovely Adele version of "Make You Feel My Love.")

Sure, there are lots of crap Beatles covers out there.  In the 60s, everybody covered them.  But there are some that are great.  Listen to Help by Tina Turner (on her "Live in Europe" album, recorded in London).  It's slow and soulful and amazing, and nothing like the Beatles version.  It brings a whole new take to Lennon's and McCartney's words.

And Wilson Pickett's "Hey Jude" was a soul phenomenon in its own right, elevating his career, and also getting session guitarist Duane Allman noticed.
