I will say that don't understand the issue people have with pre-K reports.   My son just did a research report on snakes, and it was great for him.   His whole class had to pick an animal, write about six sentences on the animal, and present the animal to the class.    He did a poster, but the kids could do a book, video, or any other kind of presentation.   We helped him, of course, but he did a lot himself.    It was great!   He was very interested in learning about his animal and drawing the pictures for the poster.   He needed a little prodding to write the sentences, but he on his own wanted to practice the presentation.   And we're told that on the day of the presentation, he confidently told his class about his animal.   It was the one big project for the year, and it seemed like the kids also had fun hearing each other present.

They also get plenty of play time, and semi-structured learning time that feels like play.  My son loves school.

We'll see what changes over the years, but right now, we like public.   Also, I am biased.  I was "highly gifted" and a product of public schools, and turned out fine (Ivy), etc.    My husband went private for high school, and my academic background is more prestigious than his.   But I had great public schools with many great teachers.   So, we'll see.  [/quote]
