Well, you need to look for a school with a educational philosophy you agree with. My reaction to your post is "Jesus H, kindergarteners do not need to be doing research papers."

Many private schools (most?) don't go hardcore academic in K because there's the idea that it's not developmentally appropriate (I obviously agree with this). You may prefer a different philosophy. [/quote]

My child is in public school and I am on this board because I am deeply troubled by these types of research assignments in pre-k. My son is verbal and loves talking and being read to, but is not writing more than his name, which is fine for us. Way too much pressure on the "academics," writing in particular which I think may be dulling his interest in school. We are considering private.[/quote]

welcome to the board.  i am a product of public schools from K-college and my kids are in private school (not a big 3).  i never thought i'd find myself to be a private school parent, especially because my mom is a retired public school teacher.  but my mom has visited our kids' private and is so in love with it and advocates it over public.
