These children are clearly gifted and brilliant! All bad behavior in DC is dismissed as a sign of intelligence. (I know this because a CC friend inferred that my son wasn't bright because he is well behaved and polite.)
This is a common theme on DCUM too -- kids who misbehave in the W schools (and BCC) do so because they are bored in class, ie, the kids are gifted.
Well, the other common theme on DCUM is disbelief that kids can be bored in class or gifted. It absolutely does not excuse bad behavior, but many of us have well-behaved kids who are nonetheless bored and/or gifted. Signed, mom of kid who never gets in trouble and is miserably bored in school.
PP if your child is truly that gifted and bored, and is equally advanced in all of the other skills that a school setting provides, then s/he does not belong in public school. Have you considered a personal tutor to handle the education?
Nope, not super gifted in all areas, but ahead enough that what she does in school is boring to her. She behaves, is quiet, and has never gotten in trouble. But she hates school and I can see why -- she's completely ignored because she's not a problem and she's 3-4 grade levels ahead. Yes, we are considering changing schools. Not easy. Personal tutor wouldn't make sense, she needs and enjoys the socialization.
