These children are clearly gifted and brilliant! All bad behavior in DC is dismissed as a sign of intelligence. (I know this because a CC friend inferred that my son wasn't bright because he is well behaved and polite.)
This is a common theme on DCUM too -- kids who misbehave in the W schools (and BCC) do so because they are bored in class, ie, the kids are gifted.
Well, the other common theme on DCUM is disbelief that kids can be bored in class or gifted. It absolutely does not excuse bad behavior, but many of us have well-behaved kids who are nonetheless bored and/or gifted. Signed, mom of kid who never gets in trouble and is miserably bored in school.
I posted the previous comment. My DC is in MCPS' gifted program. DC was bored in class, especially math. And for the most part, DC is well behaved in school, too. So, I do know that gifted kids can be bored in class. However, my previous comment stands - in the wealthier schools, parents like to think their kids act out in class either because they are bored because they are gifted or they must have some behavioral issues which drugs can cure. In the non-wealthy "gang infested" schools, however, the kids act out because their parents don't know how to parent. That is the common theme on DCUM.
