OP here. Well, we have to work it out because spouse does not object to the dogs coming. Perhaps a more accurate description would be that spouse wants family to be able to bring the dogs? The thread may have derailed a bit but I'm really just looking for some other proposals other than the ones I listed above. An out of the box suggestion that gets us both closer to what we want. For example, I think the doggy diapers would be a good option. Just want the maximum number of ideas on hand to discuss. Also, someone mentioned the garage. I'm not sure if that will be an option around Thanksgiving/Xmas time, it would probably be too cold right?
This isn't really a good situation for a "compromise" solution. Either the dogs are in your home or not…and, frankly, if both of you aren't enthusiastic about hosting the dogs, I think the answer is no. This is a "two yesses" required situation…it would be one thing if you weren't willing to host your ILs at all, but their dogs? You really can say no. Trying to find anything resembling "middle ground" is so much more trouble than it's worth. The ILs aren't going to like anything less than their dogs in your house, you're not going to want the dogs in your house…well, it's your house, you should be the one who gets to make the call!
