OP, PhD here that switched fields...you really can't take 2 years off. In DC science PhDs are a dime a dozen. You would be the least qualified of the lot not to mention you would have no experience in healthcare or pharma to get a consulting job. That doesn't mean it's impossible, but you need to know people that know people. My advice to you is get a job first, then have another kid later.
