From what I understand from co-workers who belong to CCC, there is a 10 yr wait list. So while I think it is a good idea to think at the ramifications of spending that kind of money, perhaps you are jumping the gun on both counts, op (the club and the school). Full disclosure I do not belong to any CCC nor do my kids go to Sidwell, but based on the families we know at CCC and Sidwell, there is no overlap. As prior posters said, I know of lots of overlap between St A/Landon and CCC. I also think you need to think about how insular you want your life to be. Most of the CCC families I know travel in a circle of about 3 square miles - socializing at the Club (both parents and kids), living in the town of or sec 4 Chevy Chase, and school at St A or Landon. They see the same people in all corners of their lives. Otoh, I prefer to have friends from various non- overlapping places like some at work, some in my neighborhood, some through kids/school/sport teams, some through my book club, and so on. Nothing wrong with either approach but worth it to think a out which appeals to you more.
Yes, it is about ten years. I totally agree with this.
I know at least 4 different families who joined within the last year or two and it was a two year wait for all of them, with summer privileges beginning as soon as they had all of their recommendation letters submitted. And these are "typical" CCC members, not diplomats or some other high status members who get to skip the waitlist.
Really? I go to CC and haven't heard of that. Everyone I know who joined waited about 6 years and they are well connected with a lot of (old) money.
I suppose some people find this attractive but as a native Washingtonian you should know this is just one slice and there are many people -- including many very successful people -- who are turned off by the whole Chevy Chase Club thing, to the point of negative judgment. Historically the club excluded Jews and people of color. Their strong preference for legacies and "old money" means that though they've changed on that account -- kicking and screaming -- its not exactly diverse. of course there are Sidwell families that belong, I personally know one. But for the most part the values don't align. I don't have kids at Sidwell but I've seen enough people apply to know that OP's kids are unlikely to get in. So perhaps none of this matters.
