Sure.  Everybody at private companies/firms are "on" for 7.5-9.5 hours per day, never check DCUM, pay bills, etc.

I am.  I'm in a private company routinely work 9 hour days (and then answer email and prep for the next day after I get home).  And, oh yeah, can't remember the last time I didn't work over the weekend.  There is no checking DCUM, paying bills, running errands or anything else at work.

All of this and, trust me, not only can I get fired, but sometimes the place gets "re-organized" so I get a new supervisor and have all new office politics to navigate. [/quote]

I bet you get paid at least 2x what I earn as a govt worker.   I, too, go to the gym during the day and do home tasks.  The difference between me and OP is that I absolutely kill it at my job.  I just get my work done faster than others.  I have asked for more work, but they dont have any than what I am assigned.  So I do my job (well) and then take care of myself.   I also am low paid. Define "low paid." A lot of feds seem to think the rest of us are rolling in dough...hardly, especially when a lot of jobs have been cut down to 34 hours so as not to deliver benefits.[/quote]
