My 2 sons just got back from Camp Hidden Meadows. It was their first time there. They are 13 and 11 and stayed for 1 week. I thought the camp was in a beautiful spot and the counselors were very friendly. Unfortunately, the boys had some complaints. The cabins were basic which was fine but my son had spiders over his head and was not comfortable sleeping there. Lucky for him, another camper brought a fly swatter and took care of it for him. My husband went into the bathroom when we picked them up and counted 6 spiders in one stall. The boys said that they didn't have enough to eat most meals. They did like the food they were served and there was a good variety. However, they weren't allowed to have second helpings. These are 2 growing boys. They were only allowed to have milk at breakfast. They also ran out of lemonade 1/2 way through the week. They only had water to drink. My older son, who was in the Sequoia group, went hiking at Seneca Rocks and White Water Rafting. My younger son was 11 and never left the camp. He did not have as good a time. I did not see the lake that was on the video. The boys had limited access to the pool. I was hoping they would have more experience at the lake and with the horses. That cost extra. I believe we will be looking for a different camp next year. Sadly, the 11 year old does not want to go to another sleep away camp.
Our 9 year old did a rock climbing trip to Seneca Rocks. She also did the overnight camping trip. For the horses you have to sign up prior to the summer.
