I gained lots of weight during my 1st pregnancy. But I was able to take it off by walking, watching my calories and going to the gym. With my second pregnancy I was so careful to stay active and eat right. I gained less and I looked pretty good after I had the baby. Then the sleepless nights and taking care of a toddler and a infant 24/7 got the better of me and I just plain could not fit in exercise. If I got any time to myself I just wanted to sleep! Soon I started to get flabby, my body fat percentage went up and "Wham!" I developed insulin resistance which makes losing weight an uphill battle. I found that what I used to do to lose weight no longer worked. I was tired, impatient and just downright frustrated. And I really didn't "get" that I had to change my approach. Long story short, I discovered that carb cutting is the way (really the only way) to go. That means focusing on lean meat and veggies, moderate amounts of fat and staying away from pasta, bread, rice, pizza, potatoes, sweets altogether (because those foods trigger blood sugar swings and hunger)... not something that most people really want to do. Unless they have to. Would you be willing to cook some tasty low carb dishes for your wife so she doesn't have to think about all of this while she is also taking care of young children? Would you be willing to adjust your own diet and stay away from starchy carbs and sweets for a while? Maybe take over with the kids while she takes a walk around the block... You can not do it for her but you can certainly make it easier for her to do it :).
