I'm sure she lives here. Does it surprise you that there are immigrants who live here or in Europe who never assimilate and never identify with the culture they're living in? 
I'm an immigrant too, with native-born husband who's as American as apple pie and all-American kids. It still took me almost a decade to start to feel like an American, and I don't even carry the huge mix of dogmatic religious belief and victimization complex that she wears like an albatross around her neck.
