I really cannot tell you how incompatible big law is with being a present parent and partner. I worked with regulatory attorneys and was at one of the biggest shops in DC and saw that it wasn't too different. You have to either generate business or get a partner to feed you (as a partner which is difficult because you are too expensive -- this include counsel positions). I really recommend the OP look in house if there is a regulatory need on a client basis. You'll make more and get the hours of a government job. Also, OP's DH is a SAHD. I cannot tell you how many women I worked with at big law who are paying support/alimony to their husbands who stayed home and resented the demands of the job on their wives. The worst case scenario is ugly.[/quote]
