New poster here-- I have watched four episodes so far and I hate it. Why in the world would I want to spend my time with a lead character who is so awful?? She doesn't allow her parents to have a relationship with their grand daughter? Her daughter is deprived ofr time with her grandparents? Because they are . . .what? rich? Obnoxious? A bit judgy? Unless there is actual fear for the safety of your kid, why not allow them to know their grandparents? I get wanting to do things on your own, but allowing more people to love your child does not mean that your love for your child gets decreased. If I keep watching, will something develop to have this make more sense?
No.
Her parents were extremely overbearing and not supportive of her at all. Lorelei is definitely not perfect, but her mother has at times a toxic personality. In flash backs and back story we learn that the parents were going to basically force Chris and Lorelei to marry when Lorelei became pregnant, she didn't want that so she chose to leave. She hurt them, but any one who has had parents who refuse to accept them for who they really are should understand where Lorelei is coming from.
That's not what the flashback showed. In fact, she was living with her parents once the baby was born when she took off. Her parents aren't that bad. Lorelei's character is immature and narcissistic. She compares her mother to Pol Pot in an interview for a magazine for pity sake. She never apologizes for how horribly she treats them. Or ever stops complaining about them the entire run of the show--stick a fork in it; it's done.
Have you seen the whole series? There was time after time where her parents crossed the line. Again, Lorelei is not perfect but some of the crap her parents pulled I think was unforgivable. Yes, Lorelei left shortly after having Rory, but she was a teenager who didn't like the plan her parents had drawn out for her. It is so easy to feel trapped as a teenager and with a baby on top of everything and feeling like your parents have no respect for you...... I thought the show did a great job at explaining the fault of both sides.
