Sistah, a magnet student is saying the magnet is being assimilated with the rest of the school. Starr didn't deny it. He didn't say it couldn't be done. He just said he wasn't doing. Can the principal do it? Look at what she did to the magnet program at her last school. Watch how MCPS will slowly assimilate the magnet into the regular school 1. Counselors assigned only to magnet students were removed. 2. Classes were shortened to the point they mean less than an AP course. 3. The dumbed down classes were opened to everyone who wanted it. Blair defenders keep pulling in students to the magnet to show that even with a fully assimilated magnet they will come. Then, they will argue that you don't need the magnet. 5-6 years. 10 at most. RIP magnet.
Sweetums, my kid attended the Takoma magnet while Principal Johnson was there and moved to Blair the same year Johnson did. Johnson did not dumb down the middle school magnet. You say things like "look what she did to the magnet program at her last school" and then you provide no content about it. That's because you have no content to provide. 1. Why do you think the magnet students need their own counselors? It's true that now counselors at Blair are assigned alphabetically. But who the heck cares? 2. What do you mean by "classes were shortened"? Lots of magnet classes have always been one semester. But that's because the magnet squishes a whole year into one semester. Then the kids often take the AP tests in the spring anyway. Nothing has changed. What are you talking about? 3. You haven't proven your assertion that classes were "dumbed down," probably because you can't prove it. Also, many magnet classes are closed to non-magnet kids. In the open classes, about 10% of the kids are non-magnet. That's because the magnet classes are HARD. Contrary to what you keep claiming. You are nuts! And you don't know very much about the magnet.
