That's ridiculous.  CC math is not some completely different kind of math.  A lot of how math is taught now is different from when us parents were in school…and truthfully a lot of it is better.  I never had a clue what I was doing conceptually in algebra or deriving formulas in geometry….

Common Core is not anything new, it's core building blocks, standard stuff that's been taught for years.  No voodoo here:  http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/3/introduction/

The problem is that many of the textbook companies have rebranded their crappy non-CC worksheets and materials as "Common Core" when many of them aren't or don't have anything to do with CC, along with the breathless pundits who are all out there trashing CC for no good reason other than what they perceive as political gain, misguidedly thinking CC is something the Obama Administration devised and evilly foisted on unsuspecting 'Merikans when in fact it was developed by states from various long-existing standards.  Just because you heard something on FOX doesn't make it true, folks...[/quote]
