Instead of viewing certain things as tacky, now I appreciate how people can express themselves freely here and are evaluated based on their professionalism itself - for example, you can go to a fancy restaurant and the server will be wearing a uniform but also have tattoos all over and those earring plug things and be perfectly nice and polite and friendly. I also think that DC area culture is much more WASPy - immigrants tend to be a bit blingier and then people look down on them. I appreciate in SF there is less classism, though that might just be in certain circles.
