My kids enjoyed this http://rockvilleice.pointstreaksites.com/view/rockvilleice/home-page/hip It was better than Cabin John skating lessons, where the lessons where more 'controlled" on how to place your hand and feet as if the skater was going to be a figure skater. This rockville hockey initiation was fun, learning how to skate and fall and get up... plus you get equipment with the lesson.
To PP - were your kids in the hockey skating class at Cabin John or figure skating? We had a different experience, but we were in hockey classes.
It was just regular skating classes. I don't remember their being a "hockey" option but we had the option of picking hockey skates or figure skates and we chose hockey. It may have just been 1 bad teacher. We laughed when we got the "report card"... there was some comment "bad hand placement" recommendation "repeat class".
Clarification - @ Rockville, before you took HIP 1 - hockey initiation class, you first had to do basic skating 1 & 2, where you could use either hockey or figure skates, figure skates were the preference for beginners since they're way easier to learn to skate on. About two or three years ago, Rockville added a beginner class more geared towards kids who wanted to follow the hockey path. CJ main focus use to be figure skating for beginner but recently started adding hockey beginner classes.......I don't believe the have a formal program like Rockville's HIP1 & 2. Be prepared to open your wallets:mrgreeb:
